ABOUT ATTORNEY CHRISTINE BROWN
Christine Brown has a comprehensive understanding of Title IX and how it impacts students, faculty, and staff on college campuses. Before joining Duffy in December of 2019, Christine held the dual roles of Director of Legal Services and Title IX Coordinator at Fairfield University, where she was responsible for developing the school’s Title IX policies and due process procedures. She presided over hundreds of university matters including dozens of Title IX hearings and conduct code violation claims ranging from sexual assault to hazing to racial bias.
While at Fairfield, Attorney Brown was responsible for educating the schoolwide community about sexual misconduct prevention and trained all the school’s Title IX investigators and hearing officers. Additionally, she launched institution-wide training in the areas of FERPA, Cyber Security and Disability Services, and served on the three-person executive team tasked with responding to a groundbreaking sexual abuse class action case.
Prior to her move into academia, Christine was in private practice for 22 years, focusing on civil litigation and alternative dispute resolution. In 2005 she was appointed by the State of Connecticut as an Attorney Trial Referee and served as an Assistant Attorney for the City of Bridgeport.
Christine is an excellent listener who hears challenging narratives with sensitivity while integrating an unbiased understanding of complex laws and regulations. She traces the development of these qualities back to a life-changing event when she was 10 years old: the birth of her youngest brother who was born with Down Syndrome. Christine developed and nourished a lifelong commitment to advocate for those in our society who are misunderstood and face overwhelming odds to be treated fairly.
Christine’s lineage helps explain her natural comfort in higher education settings. Her great grandfather was the long-time Athletic Director at College of the Holy Cross, and her father was a Division 1 football referee for 45 years. She has countless fond memories of traveling with her father up and down the east coast during football season.
Christine’s community volunteer activities have included chairing fundraisers for the Kennedy Center in Trumbull, CT which raised over a million dollars to support people with disabilities, and serving as the Chairman of the Board of Directors for St. Vincent’s Special Needs Services which allowed her to raise awareness and support for medically compromised children with severe disabilities.
